On September the 3rd we lost one our most cherished ROC members, Char Reavis.
Char was a founding member of ROC. She and I met in the state capitol back in 2018. I immediately liked her, it was hard no to, she contained a ton of wisdom and had a contagious laugh. She was warm and welcoming to all. There isn’t an element of ROC that Char hadn’t touched. From the creation of the Steering Committee to the summits, and celebrations, Char’s voice and willingness to welcome new members was part of her commitment to advocacy work. Char was an excellent advocate for Lane county and beyond, believing that she did not want to be one of the lucky few that got into affordable housing, but one of the many. Her absence in our community is widely felt.

Char was a beacon of light in advocacy and her unwavering dedication to the belief that housing is a fundamental human right inspired all who knew her. Her compassion knew no bounds, and she worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had a place to call home, regardless of their circumstances. We’ve lost a passionate advocate, a faithful friend, and an ally to those in need. Her impact will be felt for generations as her voice inspired others to carry on her important work, and her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched and the lives she improved. I will always remember Char as a champion of justice and a shining example of what it means to stand up for what is right.
-Mandee Seeley
When I joined NP in 2022, Char welcomed me with much joy and excitement. She cheered me on when I was nervous about testifying for bills in Salem and texted me regularly with important updates about policy and advocacy news. Housing justice is my full time job, but Char worked harder. I grieve for the years I did not know her. Oregon has lost a true hero. But her legacy will last.
